BIO

Katy Wren Haselwood (nee McNamara), prolific vocalist, singer-songwriter & composer, is a powerhouse of emotion covering a range of moods from smouldering passion to quiet tenderness.  For the last 2 decades Katy has worked regularly with the cream of Australia’s musicians and has featured her original music on compilations alongside names such as Jon Butler, Nicky Bomba & Gotye.

With a keen ear for matching vintage and culturally eclectic sounds with folk, blues and eastern stylings with pop hooks, soundtrack-like sonic flourishes, and a cheeky sense of humour, Katy is never less than compelling...

Quotes:  "Katy (Wren) McNamara is one of this country’s finest vocal talents.”

Sarah Wilco, THE DRUM MEDIA

“Katy Wren has a voice to positively die for. I would assume she takes influence from nobody except the best - Billie Holiday and Etta James.”

David Olivetti, THE DRUM MEDIA

“McNamara uses her vocals to provide a fervent emotive force that shifts between moodiness and uplifting contemplation.”

Further Quotes:

“Katy Wren is an exciting new artist, delivering her exciting debut album, Human. Not easy to categorize, there's something quite Kate Miller-Heidke about Wren, with more of a folk-pop quirk than an operatic twist. Wren is one to watch and definitely worth your time. 4 stars.”

Jonathon Moran - SUNDAY TELEGRAPH

“Watch Sydney's Katy Wren - she's got something.  Her songs feel easy in the hand but they don't stay still in the mind. In Summertime Science, an almost foppish beginning finds itself doing a frug, while Wren bounces over acoustic guitar, and the slightly Iberian rhythm in Sunshine blends into a country rockish backing while Wren's fair voice twinkles. All good so far.”
